Fatal Crash on Highway 401 in Whitby Leaves Multiple Dead
Police Report Fatalities After Serious Collision
Posted April 29, 2024 at 8:34 pmA horrific crash on Highway 401 in Whitby has left multiple people dead. According to Durham Regional Police, the incident occurred after a vehicle fleeing from police collided with another vehicle.
The fiery crash shut down a stretch of the highway in both directions, from Lake Ridge Road (County Road 23) to Brock Street (County Road 46).
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating the crash. The westbound lanes of Highway 401 have reopened, but the eastbound lanes remain closed.

More details have emerged regarding this morning's fatal crash.
According to Monica Hudon, a spokesperson for the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), the crash occurred after Durham Regional Police attempted to stop the fleeing vehicle.
The SIU is now investigating the incident.
