6abc Meteorologist: "Fall has arrived in Philadelphia"

Cooler temperatures, shorter days, and brilliant foliage mark the season's arrival.

The official start of fall is just around the corner, and 6abc Meteorologist Melissa Magee says it's already arrived in Philadelphia.

The average temperature in Philadelphia in September is 62 degrees, compared to 78 degrees in August. But Magee says we've already had several days in the 50s this month, and temperatures are expected to stay below average for the next week or two. "Fall has definitely arrived in Philadelphia," Magee said. "We're seeing cooler temperatures, shorter days, and the leaves are starting to change color." One of the best things about fall is the chance to see the changing leaves. In Philadelphia, the leaves typically start to change color in late September and early October. The peak of fall foliage season is usually around mid-October. If you're looking for a place to see the fall foliage, Magee recommends driving along the Schuylkill River Trail or visiting one of the many parks in the area. "There are so many beautiful places to see the fall foliage in Philadelphia," Magee said. "It's a great time to get outdoors and enjoy the scenery." In addition to the changing leaves, fall is also a time for hayrides, pumpkin picking, and apple cider doughnuts. Magee says there are plenty of family-friendly activities to enjoy this fall in Philadelphia. "Fall is a great time to be in Philadelphia," Magee said. "There's something for everyone to enjoy."
